Kyle's Idea

Topic: American History and Government (social studies and language arts)

Kyle would like for our class to focus on American History and Government next quarter. We would work together to understand the American political system. This would build our knowledge about the most important political event of the year - the 2020 presidential election in November!

  • How was the USA founded? Who were the Founding Fathers?
  • How was early American democracy different from the British monarchy?
  • What role did Black people, Native Americans, and women have in creating the USA?
  • What is the structure of the American government?
  • Who are the presidential candidates, and what are their beliefs? 
  • Who has the right to vote, and how can a person get access to that right? 
  • Who are the Black, Indigenous, Latino political leaders of the past and today? 
  • What are the effects of the COVID19 pandemic on American politics?
  • What are the effects of the Black Lives Matter movement and protests for racial justice?
  • How does discrimination and prejudice limit people's political voice? 
  • How do everyday people like you and me participate in politics?
