Objective

Student will be able to identify single-word nouns in simple sentences.

Background

A noun is a person, place, thing, feeling or idea. A noun tells you "who" or "what" a sentence is about.  Consider the examples below:

"Cats sleep frequently."

"Dogs swim."

"The mailman was afraid."

The noun in each sentence is cats, dogs, and mailman, because each sentence is about them!

This quarter we will work on identifying nouns and verbs in simple sentences, compound sentences, and complex sentences. The goal is for you to write a complete thoughts and see when a sentence is incomplete. (Every sentence needs a subject and a verb in order to be complete).
