Public Safety Goals for Children and Teens
One great concern about cannabis legalization is preventing access to minors. While parents are a key element in this equation, it is also a shared responsibility with those in the retail sector, who have the opportunity to educate adults and help ensure their is no diversion of product to youths under 21 or to the illegal market in general.
Five frequently discussed public safety goals are focused on reducing:
1. Access, availability, and use by youths
2. Drugged driving
3. Risk of dependency and addiction
4. Consumption of marijuana products with unwanted contaminants, uncertain potency
5. Concurrent use of marijuana and alcohol, particularly in public settings
